Confidentiality is the cornerstone of a productive therapeutic and professional relationship with our clients. We will not release information about your status, affiliation with us, condition, etc. without your written consent. We understand the value of privacy and sense of safety that a confidential relationship affords. In the case of couples or marital therapy, both members of the relationship have the right to confidentiality and, therefore, must consent to the release of any records. Georgia law mandates that we must release information about a client in certain circumstances, including any situation where the client is in danger of harming themselves or someone else. There are a few other circumstances where limited information may be released, including:

1. If child abuse is determined or suspected.
2. If a patient is determined to be, or suspected of being a danger to him/herself or others.
3. In the event the services of a collection agency are required, the following information may be released: your name, address, phone number, social security number and balance due.
4. In the case of an emergency cancellation by a therapist, a staff member at Cherokee Counseling and Psychological Associates may notify you of the cancellation, however staff will have access only to your name and phone number(s).
5. In the event that you are covered by a managed care company that requires pre-authorization, it may be necessary to reveal clinical information about you in order for them to process the claim.
